It may seem difficult to remove old silicone joints . . .NOT ANY MORE!

We all know that removing old silicone from around a bath, shower tray or kitchen worktop can be almost as frustrating as applying the new sealant.

Most people will use a sharpe knife to remove the old, unfortunatly this method is just asking for trouble because a knife is just completley the wrong shape.

Its not just the plastic fixtures that you run the risk of ruining but also the tiles that surround these areas. Using a knife is also a long and leborious process to completley remove the old sealant, try to do it quicker and you run the risk of cutting and scratching the surfaces, there's just no answer....is there???

Easily remove all your old silicone with either of our specialy designed tools.

  • The 'SYSTEM' tool is made from a high grade composite material which makes it more durable than just normal plastic. It has an added ingrediant to make it harder than normal but not so hard that it will scratch the surfaces.
  • The 'SYSTEM' tool can be re-sharpened when needed, simply take a metal blade and scratch or scrape the blade across the part of the tool you wish to sharpen. Don't try to sharpen it like you would a pencil.
  • The 'PROFESSIONAL' tool is made from steel and comes with its own sharpening stone, the blades have been specially  angled to prevent it digging into more delicate surfaces. Suitable for the trade professional or the DIYer.
  • Both tools have three blades which can be used to remove old silicone depending on which one you feel most comfortable with and which one works best on the type of old sealant you are removing.

You must remove 100% of old silicone from surfaces otherwise the new silicone will not stick.

This is easy on smooth surfaces and tiles with one of the above tools, but on tiles with an uneven profile to them its not possible so we recommend that you remove the majority with either of the above and then use the residue brush to remove the final bits.

Preparation Wipes

You’ve probably already come across this at some time but not realised it. A prime example is when you come to replace some silicone around a bath or kitchen worktop, you pull at the old sealant a little and hey presto it starts to pull away from the corner and you keep pulling and it all comes away like a long piece of string, silicone should not come out like that and their is a very good chance that you’ve just come across a poorly prepared job. Next time you come to replace some old sealant take a close look at it, more often than not its not the sealant which has split but instead it’s the bond between the sealant and the surface which has began to pull apart.

Testing has shown that if you correctly clean the surfaces prior to the application of silicone this will increase the quality and lifespan of your silicone.

This is why we've developed "CornerTape cleaning wipes".

‘What makes our cleaning wipes stand out from the crowd as there're literally hundreds of cleaning wipes on the market?’

‘Other cleaning wipes are generic cleaners, in other words they are designed to be good at cleaning up a number of different messes, whether that’s spilt paint or oil, wet silicone or just normal dirt or grime they just aren't specifically designed to properly prepare and degrease the surfaces before you put your new silicone down.

What makes them bad for this purpose is they contain a myriad of solvents not all of which evaporate away so leaving a thin film on the surface. Obviously applying your new silicone on top of a chemical which has been developed to remove wet silicone would not be the best thing to do. They also contain other things like hand moisturisers which tend to be a little oily which again don't evaporate away and again all you’d be doing was applying silicone on top of oil which your new sealant wouldn't stick to properly.’

  • REMEMBER - Correct cleaning = longer lasting silicone joints
  • Failure to adhere to this simple rule will result in premiture failure of your silicone joints
